Planks, we all got planks!

A week ago I came across a bit of information that shocked me. Many may have heard this, but I am not re-posting this as a way to scoff or point fingers. I believe that there is something more to this story than just typical church chizmiz. I was never a fan of Dr. Pipim's mindset and perspectives, but that did not stop me from attend a series of meetings which he spoke for.

During the last few days I have been thinking about Dr. Pipim's boldness and humility. Presumably a man at the top of the spiritual ladder, in front of everybody, willingly to step down. I can, at some level understand such a move, and in seeing his counter-cultural move in light of his actions makes me proud to be Christian. It sets an example to many, Christian or not, of what it takes to be a honest, truthful, and humble leader.

Michigan Conference president Jay Gallimorewrites, "I received a call from Dr. Pipim Monday [May 23] afternoon telling me that he was resigning from Michigan Conference and the ministry."

Samuel Pipim, director of public campus ministries for the Michigan conference, helped to found Generation of Youth for Christ (GYC), led the opposition to the ordination of women, and authored a number of books supporting conservative readings of the Bible.

In a May 29 message addressed to "Colleagues in Ministry," Jay Gallimore writes, "life and ministry sometimes brings us great pain and sorrow. This is one of those times. Dr. Samuel Pipim. . .has given the Michigan Conference Executive Committee (MCEC) his resignation. It has been accepted and voted.

Though there is something interesting in his letter which I would comment on...

"Undoubtedly, my resignation will be greeted with deep sorrow and hurt by those of you who have known me and worked closely with me. On the other hand, others who have always opposed what we stand for will have an additional reason to rejoice."

I pray this is not true. I for one, not being fan of his perspectives does not entitle me to rejoice. But I do find insights to both what is going on (treatment towards Pipim) and Pipim's letter, It is the examination of our hearts and minds in judging others and holding grudges. Maybe a few minuets reviewing Matt 5:38-42, 7:1-6, and Rom 12:17-21 might bring back the mindset Christ is expecting all His children to have.

In closing I have to ask, “why are must he really step down?”

I ask this question because I never read about Moses or King David resigning from the post which God gave them. We are all prone to temptation, yet ironically we deny it when in secret, but when publicized many find a way of proclaiming a Holier-Than-Thou comment to those who by nature, fall! I rejoice in the Grace that Jesus Christ has given to all who repent. I too enjoy this Grace!
